Supplies and Equipment Program
COAN has worked hard to establish a supplies and equipment program for needy hospitals in Nicaragua . With very limited resources these items are difficult to obtain and often financially unfeasible to buy within their country. Requests for supplies and medicines come directly from the Nicaraguan doctors. Many of these supplies are gathered on a continual basis at COAN's warehouse facility. We hand-carry what we can during our quarterly missions. Before each trip, our team responds to the needs of the hospital and packs necessary supplies and equipment. These items enable the Nicaraguan surgeons to successfully complete surgeries, without any help, throughout the year.
There are weight and size restrictions as to what we can bring for international flights, so priority is given to what is most needed. Everything that is packed serves a purpose.
Larger equipment and bulk items are shipped to Nicaragua via container ship, when we have accumulated enough to warrant the $3-4,000 shipping fees. COAN operates a modest storage facility where we stage donated supplies/equipment for distribution.
Medical Donations
Our missions program actively solicits and collects supplies/equipment from local hospitals, medical practices and healthcare manufacturers. This includes equipment that is being replaced with newer models but is still in working order. COAN does not accept medical equipment that is broken or cannot be maintained by the hospitals in Nicaragua.
